Personal Development

We have developed the Flourish at KS5 programme to ensure our students are successful at Saint George’s and are prepared for life beyond sixth form. Our personal development programme uses a holistic approach to help our students develop into rounded individuals who have skills that support them both in school and beyond.

Flourish in School

Transition

Our transition programme starts in the summer of Year 11, where students are provided with transition readings and activities to help them engage with their subjects and to help them decide whether these are the subjects they wish to study in September. The summer transition work also helps students gain an awareness of the types of independent study that are expected of them at Level 3. In July, we hold our induction day when students can experience taster sessions for their chosen subjects and live a ‘day in the life of a sixth former’. Once students have enrolled in courses, there is a small period of time in September when students can change courses. Our pastoral and teaching staff provide support throughout the year, but particularly in these first few months to help students understand and settle into the demands of Level 3 study. We also hold a parent information evening for all Year 12 students in late September.

VESPA

To support our students develop study skills suitable for level 3 study, such as independent learning, we use the VESPA programme during our P6 sessions. There are several reflective activities used across the two years of study to help students develop their vision and future goals or to give them practical advice on how to manage their time effectively.

Mentors

Students all have an allocated form tutor where there is daily contact during our P6 tutor sessions. The tutor also acts as a mentor to the student in both pastoral and academic matters. We also have a KS5 Learning Mentor who can provide 1:1 or group mentoring for students.

Saint George's Community

Our sixth form plays a very active part in the Saint George’s community, and we expect all students to contribute to our school community in a variety of ways. Students can become involved in peer mentoring, peer tutoring, and acting as reading buddies in our primary phase. All students in Year 12 will plan and deliver worship to at least one community or the primary phase, as well as deliver presentations to small sixth-form groups. We offer a rewards programme for the sixth form community contribution time.

  • Bronze Award: 10hrs of community contributions
  • Silver Award: 20hrs of community contribution
  • Gold Award: 30hrs of community contribution
  • Platinum Award: 50hrs of community contribution
Leadership

There are various student leadership opportunities in our sixth form.
