In years 9, 10 and 11 students can opt to follow AQA GCSE Drama. During the course they examine a range of Drama and Theatre from a performance perspective. Plays are deconstructed, practically explored and performed in the evening to audiences of parents and friends. Recently performed texts include, ‘Animal Farm’, ‘Blue Remembered Hills’, ‘The Crucible’ and ‘Ashputtel’. Students also have the opportunity to perform original devised work. Students also visit the professional theatre and study the production scene from a performance, design and technical perspective. Having completed practical performance work students also sit a written examination on their study of Drama and Theatre. Practical application of acting as well as technical and design skills form the skills aspects of the course.

In years 12 and 13 students can opt to study AQA and A2 Drama and Theatre Studies. This builds on the work at Key Stage 4 as students examine Drama and plays in a more sophisticated manner. They also visit the professional theatre and explore what they see within lessons. In year 12 Hedda Gabler and Our Country’s Good are examined along with current professional productions. Coursework sees students select renowned Practitioners and create productions for performance. In year 13 original devised work and scripted plays are performed for an audience.  Students produce written rehearsal logs and reports on the practical work they perform.
