Remote Learning

For more information, please contact:

Attendance is mandatory for all pupils of compulsory school age. However, Saint George’s Secondary Phase will provide remote education to pupils in circumstances when in-person attendance is either not possible or contrary to government guidance. This could include;

  • Occasions when school leaders decide that it is not possible for their setting to open safely, or that opening would contradict guidance from local or central government.

  • Occasions when individual pupils, for a limited duration, are unable to physically attend their school but are able to continue learning, for example, pupils with an infectious illness

  • Remote education will be activated when there is a national or local lock down because of government guidance or a bubble closure. If an individual or a few pupils need to self-isolate, they will be able to access work remotely.

If you are unwell, please let the school know in the usual way so that we can notify your teachers.

Implementation

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we may need to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, practical subjects may need to adjust their curriculum plans where pupils were due to be completing a practical activity, e.g., Design Technology, Art, Dance, Drama, Science and PE.

Pupils are instructed to use Microsoft Teams to locate their work. Teachers will signpost students to lesson-specific, high-quality remote learning to ensure they can continue to learn simultaneously at home for the duration of their isolation. This can of course includes live lessons, pre-records, Oak and other high-quality, differentiated learning.

Supporting Pupils with SEND

We recognise that some pupils, for example, some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

  • All pupils with an EHCP are offered a place in our on-site provision in which key workers and vulnerable children are supervised and supported by teaching assistants.
  • In addition to the Microsoft Teams training and guidance that all pupils receive, our SEND students have an additional small group or 1:2:1 training as needed.
  • Teaching assistants are allocated to support SEND students during live lessons.
  • SEND students to receive regular KIT (Keep In Touch) calls from our SEND team to offer support and guidance with their learning.
  • The intervention takes place via Teams for some SEND pupils.
  • Teaching Assistants hold regular 1:1 teams meetings with SEND pupils to offer further support and guidance on their work.
