Celebration Evening 2011 (stet)

Students past and present joined us at Rochester Cathedral last Wednesday for our annual Celebration of Achievement. During the event, last year’s Year 11 and Year 13 students received their GCSE, A Level and BTEC certificates, while many were also awarded prizes for attainment and progress.  Students’ families and other guests were also present, making the evening a celebration for all. It was a night to acknowledge the hard work and achievement of all our students.  Those who moved on after Year 11 returned for the evening, while those now at university or in work also came, not only to receive their certificates but to see friends and teachers.  Always a highlight of the year, the evening allows Saint George’s staff to catch up with and congratulate those they have taught through the years. The celebration also showcased some of our performing arts students. There were excellent performances from Amy Hall, who sang “What a Wonderful World”, Abbey Cottam who danced during the piece, and Jay Russell, who performed choreography from his A Level Dance.  More than just a presentation ceremony, it allowed families, students, staff and guests to see some of the many talented pupils currently at Saint George’s. Our guest speaker was Alec Shelbrooke, a former Saint George’s student and now MP for Elmet and Rothwell.  In his speech, he encouraged those present to aspire to great things, using his own experiences as inspiration. The event showed what a broad range of talents we have at the school, and we look forward to celebrating even greater success next year.
