Public Consultation to increase the Published Admission Number

Wednesday 6th March 2019

Dear Parents / Carers

Some of you will recall from previous communications that last year we were delighted to secure a sum in excess of £3.5 million to replace our existing ‘H Block’ which currently houses English, dance, music, and the sixth form and pastoral areas. Plans have been prepared, a planning application has been submitted and we are awaiting the outcome.

I am delighted to inform you that Saint George’s was again this year the Gravesham Secondary School that received the most first choice, and indeed total number, of applications for Year 7. Given the popularity of the school and the acute need for more Secondary places in Gravesham, we have subsequently been approached by Kent County Council with a request to consider a permanent expansion of 30 places in each year group with effect from September 2020. This would change our planned admissions number to 210 rather than 180.

Having discussed the matter with the School Governing Body and Aletheia Trust Board we have agreed to consult on this proposal. However, we do feel that any viable expansion must enhance the daily experience of our community and continue to support the excellent outcomes that the school has enjoyed in recent years. To this end KCC have proposed to commit a sum in excess of £2.5 million towards the existing building project, thus allowing the space for additional pupils by way of a combined replacement and expansion project.

I have attached the consultation papers and look forward to receiving your thoughts. I am of course happy to provide any further information about the project that you may require.

Yours faithfully

Stephen Carey
