Statement from Mr Carey – Irun Kalsi

Thursday 23rd July 2020

It is with great sadness that we share with our school community the news of the sudden and tragic death of Year 11 student, Irun Kalsi. We have been in regular contact with his family and have shared our collective condolences with them. Irun was a much loved and popular member of our school community. Seemingly always smiling, always ready to attempt new challenges and usually with an opinion on most matters. Irun was a talented musician and committed to supporting tolerance and cohesion in school and across the wider community.

Irun enjoyed school wide popularlty yet, also had a close group of loyal friends. I am aware that they are organising an event to remember Irun this Saturday in Woodlands Park. We will of course hold a service of remembrance and celebration of Irun’s, all to brief life when we return to school in September. We are planning the event in partnership with Irun’s family and will welcome all of our current year 11 to attend. We are planning to work in partnership with Irun’s family, Cohesion Plus and his friends to establish a more permanent legacy to enable us to remember and celebrate Irun’s life.

Should any parent or student of the school require additional support at this very difficult time please directly contact our pastoral lead Michelle Smith at
