The 2019-20 Young Person’s Travel Pass scheme is now open to receive applications for Full Year Passes and passes for the First Half Year.

The deadline for applications to ensure that passes are available for student’s to collect from yourselves on the first day of term in September is Friday 19th July.  We would appreciate your assistance in promoting the opening of the application window and the importance of applying early to guarantee that it is available for the first day of term.

Applicants paying the standard price and those paying the reduced fee under the Free School Meals Criteria are now able and encouraged to apply online.  However, for those unable to do so the application form is available to download on the Kent County Council Website at the below link:

From the perspective of schools and colleges, in responding to feedback received in relation to the start of the new academic year, we are intending to provide passes to you in advance of the first day of term.  Passes should therefore be arriving from Monday 2nd September 2019 onwards.

When you can use it

The pass offers unlimited bus travel between 6am and 7pm, Monday to Friday. It is valid from the start of the school year in 2019 to 31 July 2020.


  • £350 for a full year
  • £100 for a full year for children who get free school meals.
  • Free for young carers, young people in care and care leavers.
  • If you are applying for more than two full cost passes, you can get the third and fourth pass free.

How to renew

Renew online if you pay for your pass (either full cost or reduced cost) If you have moved house or changed school since you applied last year and have not told us, please email before applying online. Renew by post if:

  • you qualify for a free pass
  • you are applying for more than two full cost passes and want to get the third and fourth pass free
  • do not have a credit or debit card

After you apply

Once your application has been processed, you will receive an e-mail or letter as confirmation.

Getting to school on the first day of term

We no longer send letters for travel on the first day or term. You child will be able to travel without one and their pass will be available to collect from school at the start of term.

Sixth form, college and training

If you are currently in year 11 and remaining in full time learning, then you may be interested our Kent 16+ Travel Card.
