How to apply for Higher Education
During Year 12 all students interested in applying to University or are seeking an Apprenticeship are invited to attend the annual University/Apprenticeship Search Exhibition in London. The purpose of the event is to help students discover which university or apprenticeship might be right for them. Later in the year during their Transition Evening for Year 12 into 13 they will receive their personal guide called ‘what are my options’ as well as various other tips/hints. Students are encouraged to use their work experience placement week as a chance to explore their possible future careers. Work experience is for all Year 12 students and takes place during the last week of the academic year in July – Term 6. During the Summer holiday all Year 12 students who are sure of their interest in University should be putting together their first draft personal statement before returning to Sixth Form.
For Year 13, those who are interested in applying for Higher Education will have already indicated this before their Summer break. In term 1, their main focus is to complete their UCAS application. They have access to a 5 week personalised programme of support run after-school on Tuesdays. Year 13 students and parents will also be invited to a student finance presentation and Q&A session to clarify support available.
