Saint George’s Celebrates GOLD School Games Mark Award for 2024/25!

We are absolutely delighted to share some fantastic news that Saint George’s Church of England School has been awarded the prestigious GOLD School Games Mark for the 2024/25 academic year!

This incredible achievement is a reflection of the passion, dedication, and hard work shown by our entire PE department, and in particular, we’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Mrs Chenu, whose leadership and commitment have played a vital role in making this possible.

What is the School Games Mark?

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, designed to recognise and reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across schools and into the community. Since its launch in 2012, it has become a respected measure of excellence in school sport — and we are incredibly proud to have reached GOLD standard once again.

Our Sporting Highlights 2024/25

This has been a year of remarkable success and achievement across a range of sports, and we are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our students, teams, and staff alike. Here are just some of the highlights:

  • Netball Leagues – 1st Place across Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11
(Special mention to Year 8 who were unbeaten!)

  • Athletics – Strong performances at Kent and District level

  • Rowing – District and National events saw our Year 8 Boys win, along with individual podium finishes (1st, 2nd, 3rd) in both Girls and Boys categories

  • Cricket – Girls' teams shone in Kent & District Tournaments

  • Swimming – Medal winners at the Kent Schools Championships

  • Cross Country – Victories in both Girls’ and Boys’ categories at District level

  • Football – League participation and Shield runners-up

  • Rugby – League events and the formation of our own Barbarians team

This award also recognises the number of young people competing in local inter-school competitions and the involvement of our young volunteers, leaders and officials who make these events possible. Their enthusiasm and sense of responsibility embody the values of teamwork and leadership that lie at the heart of everything we do at Saint George’s.

Thank You to Our PE Team

This award would not have been possible without the dedicated team behind it. We are incredibly grateful to:

Mrs LM Chenu, Mr G Bright, Mr A Poppy, Mr C Knight, Mr J Cunningham, and Mr McGuirk.

Your unwavering commitment, tireless organisation, and love of sport continue to inspire and empower our students year after year.

As part of the application process, we were required to meet high standards in four key areas: participation, competition, workforce, and club links. We’re proud that our efforts have been recognised — and even more excited for what’s to come.

We’ll be aiming high once again when we reapply in 2026!
