Education and Childcare
New course for September 2024!
A T Level is a technical qualification that allows a student to combine academic study with industry specific work placements. A T Level is equivalent to three A Levels and this would be the only subject a student studies during their time at sixth form. The education and childcare qualification will allow students to develop core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry into a range of education and early years occupations. The course we offer will deliver the occupational specialist component in the area of Assisting Teaching.
A total of five grade 4s or above, including Grade 4 in GCSE English and GCSE Maths
Core component: Context of school provisions; approaches applied to education; safeguarding; social development and behaviour; child development; equality and diversity; special educational needs and disability; working with others; parents, families and carers; reflective practice.
Assisting teaching component: supporting teachers to enhance children’s education; planning and reviewing educational activities; promote the health, safety and well-being of children; recognise and respond to children's needs, including those with special educational needs.
Core component: Core component is assessed via two exams and an employer set project
Assisting Teaching component: Assisting Teaching component: 315hrs of industry placement within at least one of our Trust primary schools and the completion of three occupational specialist assignments.
What skills will you develop by taking this qualification?
- Critical analysis, evaluation and problem solving skills.
- How to use appropriate level communication skills to work with children and young people.
- How to working with other professionals to plan and provide activities to meet children's needs.
- How to use different types of assessment to track children's progress.
What higher education or careers opportunities can the qualification lead to?
Degrees such as childhood studies, education studies, childhood studies, primary teaching or into areas of social science such as sociology and psychology.
Careers that have explicit links to education and childcare are primary teaching, early years teaching
